Machame, known as the “Whiskey” route, is now the most popular route on the mountain. Compared with Marangu, the days on Machame are longer and the walks are steeper
The Umbwe Route used to be the steepest, shortest and most direct route to Uhuru Peak. Traditionally the route utilised the steep Western Breach and Arrow’s Glacier path to the summit
The Rongai Route is the only route to ascend up the North side of the mountain, originating close to the Kenyan border. It is considered one of the easiest routes up Mt. Kilimanjaro
The Marangu Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the southeast. Many favor Marangu because it is considered to be the easiest route on the mountain, given its gradual slope and direct path.
The Lemosho Route is a remote, less commonly used and beautiful way up the mountain. Because of its length, it allows for the best opportunity for acclimatization.
The Northern Circuit is the newest and longest route on Mount Kilimanjaro. It begins in the West at the Londorossi Gate and follows the same path as the Lemosho Route for the first two days.
